ECO

The Red Rattler is based on a five-year eco-sustainability plan which includes;

The installation of water wall tanks for rain water catchment and reuse for toilet flushing together with the installation of low-flush toilets throughout the venue. We've installed the low flush loos and have the water tanks in readiness for final cross over, but we need to raise funds for plumbing.

The toilet cubicles are constructed using recycled 2nd hand wardrobe, they are stocked with recycled toilet paper, and our urinals are water-free.

We have fitted low-energy lighting and power systems including LED stage lighting rig and low-wattage light fittings throughout the bar, toilets, theatre space and rooftop garden.

We have installed whirly birds in the roof and part of the fire safety upgrade led us to these smoke exhaust vents (an alternative we found to a conventional exhaust fan) that double as air vents in the ceiling, which we opted for instead of air-conditioning.

We hope to install solar panels to our roof down the track to ensure maximum use of green power, with a vision to feed power back to the grid.

We're taking a 50c eco-tax off door tix, or for free gigs we ask punters to donate 50c as they come in to contribute to this sustainability plan.

Lastly, all furniture at the rattler is 2nd hand, our bar stock includes local, organic, and preservative-free products, and we recycle all glass, cans, paper and plastic where possible.
