NONGKRONG 2026: Soda Gembira
For the first time, and one night only, Nongkrong’s club night, Soda Gembira, is throwing it down at the beloved Red Rattler Theatre this August for its Eora/Sydney takeover.
A nod to the classic Indonesian pink drink, we’re serving the same fizzy, equal parts playful and a little nakal energy to the dance floor – a love letter to self-expression and the ass-shaking club angels.
With dancers and DJs taking over, expect a journey through Indonesia’s underrepresented club sounds from dangdut, koplo, funkot, jedag jedug to breakbeat.
Dinner is Nasi Kuning, a celebratory turmeric coconut rice commonly served at Indonesian festivities from beloved Indonesian caterers Lawan (@lawancatering)
Choices are:
Nasi Kuning & Rendang Sapi Mealbox (Halal)
Turmeric coconut rice w/ Padang Style Slow Cooked Beef and Blanched Vegetables in Spiced Grated Coconut Nasi Kuning & Tempeh Orek Mealbox (Vegan / GF)
Turmeric Coconut Rice w/ Sweet and Spicy Glazed Tempe and Blanched Vegetables in Spiced Grated Coconut
Pre-order to not miss out as limited portions available.
Bigger selections of enak Indo bites will be on offer on the night.
Entry to Red Ratter Theatre is accessible, with accessible bathrooms located in the main area. Dance floor space is on one level, with seating (stools, lounges) around the edges.
No strobe lighting or haze used. Free masks and foam earplugs will be available at the door. -- Free entry for First Nations and Trans folks ~ just let us know via hello@nongkrong.com.au
This event takes place on the stolen land of the Gadigal and Wangal people. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was, and always will be Aboriginal Land. This is a communal space that centres the safety, joy, and wellbeing of First Nations, POC, Queer, and Trans communities. Antisocial, discriminatory, or harmful behaviour will not be tolerated – it’s in your hands to keep these spaces flourishing.
