Sonido
“Generaciones” brings together two ensembles linked by heritage, purpose and time. For nearly 50 years, SONIDO has been a cornerstone of Latin American music in Australia, emerging from the immigrant experience of the late 1970s and evolving into a distinctive sound shaped equally by Andean folklore and life growing up in Australia. From charango and quena to bass and drums, SONIDO’s music is a living archive: a folklore without borders, carrying stories of home, migration and cultural continuity across generations and geography.
Sharing the stage is Canto Libre, a collective of young Sydney-based musicians in their teens and twenties who represent the next chapter of this tradition. Drawing on the music of the Andes, they are committed to preserving and re-energising Latin American musical forms for contemporary audiences, blending deep respect for tradition with creativity and fresh perspective. “Generaciones" is a meeting of past and future in the present: an intergenerational conversation where legacy, renewal and shared cultural memory come alive through music.
