The Red Rattler Theaters Future Communities arts program invites you to a Masterclass in ‘Creative Common Sense’. This is a community forward educational workshop that is open for all  & gives priority to QBIPOC participants.

Facilitated by performer, recording artist & educator Craig Calhoun. This masterclass is a practical application of sound in live performance entertainment providing valuable insights and techniques to improve results.

Craigs Funk Band ‘The Brothers of Oz’ will perform allowing you to witness these concepts, approach & philosophy in action.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand Sound and auditory perception, including factors that influence our perception and experience of sound.
  • Explore often overlooked techniques that enhance audience engagement and connection in live music performance
  • Develop critical listening skills to identify & appreciate sound nuances in live and studio environment
  • Sound setup, bump in & bump out procedures

This masterclass is suitable for musicians, audio engineers, producers,radio presenters,  sound techs of all levels & anyone in the music industry looking to enhance their understanding and skills in live performance. Familiarity with terminology of live performance would be a helpful requirement and those who are currently engaged in audio and sound mixing.

By the end of this masterclass, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the principles and techniques for successful live performances leading to improved results in sound mixing.

ABOUT THE ARTIST/FACILITATOR

Craig ‘CC’ Calhoun Craig Calhoun is a multi-talented African-American born artist best known as the frontman and founding figure of the iconic Sydney funk band Craig Calhoun & the Brothers of Oz

Craig is known as Sydney’s “Funkiest” a title that reflects his unparalleled passion and a career deeply rooted in the world of funk music, Craig’s unique perspective on music can be witnessed in his #FunkSighting performances. He has opened for iconic artists like Santana and more.

Participant Requirements:

Spots are likely to fill up so registration is essential: if you cannot attend please let us know as your spot will be given to someone else. 

Please bring: Notepad, Pen. BYO water bottle. Snacks. Morning/Afternoon Tea will be provided. 

No video or audio recording of the masterclass is permitted.
