About the red rattler:
The Red Rattler is a queer-led, not-for-profit venue and arts organisation in Marrickville. We are ethical, sustainable, and community-driven. Our purpose is to faciitate space for communities to build solidarity, flourish and create arts, activism and queer culture that is inspiring and influential.
We are currently taking bookings for:
- Expiriemntal Art
- Poetry
- Film screenings and shoots
- Cabaret
- Public Parties & Fundraisers
- Theatre/Performance
- Talks & ideas
- Some private events e.g Fundraiser
About Our Facilities:
The Red Rattler’s downstairs theatre is a ground-level 300 capacity (standing) or 120 capacity (seated) licensed venue. Our 300 square metre ground-level warehouse style space has a bar and offers wheelchair access, non-gendered accessible toilets, a professional audio system, lighting rig, raised stage, projector, stage-width screen, pole and rigging points in the ceiling. There is a small holding room and dressing room backstage. We can provide lounge seating or theatre-style chairs depending on your event preferences.
The second level rehearsal studio can be offered as a green room by request, depending on the size of your event.
If you would like to book the second level studio seperately for workshops, rehearsals or meetings, please note that space is limited to times when there are no events downstairs. Upstairs capacity is 30 people. No amplified music is permitted. The upstairs isn’t yet wheelchair accessible.
About Your Booking:
- Because we are fully licensed, no BYO is permitted.
- Minors are only permitted when expressly advertised on our “What’s On” page. If permitted, minors must be supervised by an adult guardian at all times, as per our licensing requirements.
- The entire venue is a non-smoking and vape free zone.

The Booking Process:
- Complete this form
- Our Program Manager will review your booking and respond by email within aproximately 3 working days.
- We’ll get you to complete an event details form, finalise your Venue Hire Agreement and sign off on our Community/Safer Spaces Policy.
- Voila! You’re booked in.
