AnSo (they/them): As a self-described sculptor of sound existing and creating on Gadigal land, South Korean artist, AnSo’s works are ever-evolving, like a blob of clay on a throwing wheel, the hands of the sculptor, feeling, moulding, collapsing, rising. ‘Come Find Me’, was their third release after their previous hyper-pop coming-out single ‘So Damn Loud’ and debut EP Farrago of Emotions. The new single captures a darker side of AnSo, diving into harsh realities and painful experiences growing up as an inevitably naïve female in an unforgiving world. AnSo’s music is raw and confronting, the back-and-forth weave of Korean and English lyrics representing the way their thoughts sound in their head. AnSo’s uniqueness of sound comes from their love of field recordings and collecting found sounds, manipulating, distorting, and sculpting sounds to how they see fit, creating a world of experimental pop.
Risako Katsumata (they/them):
Risako Katsumata is a nonbinary Japanese multidisciplinary artist currently residing on unceded Gadigal Land. Risako explores and seeks representation of intersectional queerness, sexuality, chronic illnesses and cultural identity across multiple mediums including film photography, movement, freestyle dance and performance art. The politics involved in “otherness” of intersectional lives has been a significant theme in their recent works. Their movement style is an expansive, fluid mix of hiphop and urban contemporary with undertones of traditional Japanese dances like kabuki and bon odori.
Together, AnSo and Risako create performance-based works that seek to push the boundaries of the confinements marganilised people navigate. Through the moulding and marrying of mediums including sound and bodily movements, Risako and AnSo create sensually immersive multimedia experiences.
