Kate McGuinness is a bona fide scallywag and visual artist working in Sydney. Her work interrogates the psyche through abstract comical expression most often articulated in the form of video and performance. Kate best describes her approach to performance as a series of ‘live self-portraits’ made up of several alter egos. She explores contemporary preoccupations with ‘self care’ and uses humour as a device to broaden the accessibility of her work.

The culmination of her various ‘live self-portraits’ has resulted in the creation of Kate’s first feature film ‘How to walk to Parramatta’ which signifies another major theme within her work – an enduring notion to maintain and create a strong sense of place. With sensibilities of the flaneur, Kate became inhabited by an obsession with walking the infamous Parramatta Road in Sydney. With over hundreds of hours of footage, she has collected on her walks and in collaboration with local community members, Kate hopes to challenge the bleak perception of Sydney’s oldest road. She was nominated for the 2021 Kudos Award where she took home a highly commended award for the film.

Kate presened The Sugondese FIlm Festival. The industry’s lowest-stakes event with all  the fun and none of the gatekeeping.  Sugondese.
