Permaisuri: The Gaysian Empress Rises is an interdisciplinary music and performance art project by electronic artist, singer and DJ, Dyan Tai. Drawing on their background as a trilingual, Malaysian-born, Chinese-Australian artist, the show will explore queer identity and the diasporic migrant experience in Australia. Accompanied by immersive projection art by Juune Lee, Permaisuri highlights Tai’s signature use of Asiatic soundscapes and Chinese operatic drag; intersected with glitchy, hyperpop and breakcore club samples as an ode to queer nightlife. Featuring a cast of East/Southeast Asian excellence, Permaisuri is supported by The Red Rattler Theatre and Inner West Council.
